Anvaya, the SA-built AI platform for legal professionals, has closed its first institutional seed round with 3 Capital Ventures. The round follows earlier backing from SA technology investor Clive Butkow, who was Anvaya's first cheque.
Founded by CEO Lynton Naicker and CTO Ranvir Mohanlal, the company builds a single AI-powered environment for legal research, document review, contract analysis, drafting, litigation preparation and workflow automation.
The round size was not disclosed, in keeping with 3CV's standing practice on early-stage portfolio companies.
Interesting insights on Anvaya’s seed funding
3CV is an early-stage SA investment firm focused on post-revenue B2B tech businesses solving productivity and operational challenges. The firm was established through E Squared and Allan Gray and operates independently within the broader Allan & Gill Gray Foundation ecosystem, giving Anvaya a backer with institutional depth and long-horizon capital.
The seed round validates a specific thesis: highly skilled legal professionals are still spending disproportionate time on repetitive process-heavy work, and the productivity gain from taking that work off their plates translates directly into revenue capacity for the firm and quality-of-life recovery for the individual lawyer.
One Anvaya user described the platform's impact in a single line: "Anvaya gave me back the ability to read a bedtime story to my child."
Anvaya was also named the SA regional winner of the Startup World Cup and will represent the country at the global final in Silicon Valley.
What others are saying about Anvaya
ITWeb previously covered Anvaya's regional Startup World Cup win, positioning the company for the global final in Silicon Valley on 20 November 2026. BusinessTechAfrica added Butkow's earlier commentary on the vertical AI trend in African B2B software.
When bedtime stories become the actual product benefit
SA's vertical AI-meets-SaaS thesis is no longer an anecdote. Fintura for accounting closed its pre-seed in March. Wamly for hiring closed its Series A in June. RelyComply for financial crime is scaling.
Now Anvaya for legal joins the same pattern with its first institutional cheque. And the 3CV backing specifically matters because their thesis is post-revenue B2B tech solving operational drag, and Anvaya is a textbook fit.
The user quote about reading a bedtime story is the emotional receipt on why this class of product works. The productivity gain is not incidental to the business model. It is the business model.
