SA tutoring platform Teach Me 2 has landed at 76th on TIME's World's Top EdTech Companies 2026, published on 22 July 2026. The ranking runs 500 companies deep and was compiled with Statista, scored on financial performance and industry impact.
Teach Me 2 is the highest-placed SA company on the list. Founder and CEO Nick Miller says the platform has now delivered over one million tutoring lessons and serves more than 10,000 families.
Interesting insights on TeachMe2 making TIME's 100 EdTechs list
Only two other SA companies made the 500: Optimi at 245th and Fifth Dimension Technologies at 323rd. Duolingo took first place, with the list leaning heavily toward literacy and language outcomes.
Teach Me 2 covers Grade 1 through university, online and in person, and now reaches learners in more than 50 countries. Miller credits two decisions for the trajectory: investing around 2017 in matching technology to pair tutors and learners at scale, and building online tutoring capability years before Covid forced everyone else to. When face-to-face stopped in 2020, the rails were already laid.
The third factor is the tutor filter, which Miller describes as a single question: would we want this person tutoring our own child?
What others are saying about TeachMe2’s achievement
Hypertext confirmed the 76th-place finish and pulled the comparison against Optimi and 5DT further down the ranking. Connecting Africa framed the listing as evidence that a company built in SA can hold its own against the world's biggest education platforms.
Confidence is the thing SA founders keep leaving on the table
Miller's sharpest line is not about the ranking. It is about pedigree: He spent time in Silicon Valley and came back with the view that SA founders systematically assume a Stanford or MIT degree means someone is operating a level above them, and that this simply is not true.
Building through loadshedding, currency swings and infrastructure failure produces resourcefulness that travels well, and 76th out of 500 globally is the receipt. The gap between SA capability and SA self-belief is still the most expensive thing in this market.
Teach Me 2 just put a number on how big it is.
